
ABOUT
Uruguayan countertenor Agustín Pennino is recognized for his captivating vocal colors and engaging dramatic presence. marking him as one of the most promising talent of his generation. He is a member of the Royal Academy Opera for the 2025-27 seasons.
Pennino has performed on prestigious stages in Uruguay and internationally, with notable roles including Oreste in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène at Teatro Solís and Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Sodre Auditorium (Award-winner in Premios Florencio as best Opera Production 2023 in Uruguay) among others. He also pappeared as a soloist at renowned festivals, including La Escena Vocal at Sala Verdi, Gala Latinoamericana at Sodre Auditorium (Organized by the Royal Opera House), El Viaje del Contratenor at Sodre, among others.

​In concert, Pennino has appeared as a soloist with distinguished ensembles, including a recent performance with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Discovered in Uruguay in 2022 by David Gowland, Artistic Director of the JPAP Royal Opera House, who encouraged him to move to London to refine his technique. He has worked closely with world-renowned artists.
In 2023, Pennino was invited to Carnegie Hall for masterclasses with Joyce DiDonato, following his selection for the Opera Workshop organized by the UK’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House in collaboration with Uruguay’s Sodre and InterArte. He has been trained by industry leading artists such as Iestyn Davies, Jenniffer Larmore, Michael Chance, Julius Drake, Yvonne Kenny, Susan Bullock, Edith Wiens, David But Philip, Nicky Spence, and Kamal Khan, among others. ​

His talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including the second and audience Prize at the prestigious Richard Lewis Competition, First prize at the ANEMOS International Competition in Rome, Italy—where past winners include Rosa Feola and Jessica Pratt— third place in the Stignani Competition in Imola, Italy, Very Highly Commended mentions in both the Blyth Buesst Operatic Prize and the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize, solidifying his standing as an emerging artist of distinction.

Upcoming engagements include the title role in Handel’s Rinaldo at the Susie Sainsbury Theatre in London, and Arbate in Mozart’s Mitridate at Teatro di San Carlo, Naples.
