A choir mourns the death of Eurydice around her tomb, while Orpheus cries in despair. The gods take pity on her suffering and send Amor to give her the news that he will be able to go down to the underworld to rescue her, with the only condition of not looking at her or speaking to her until he emerges into the world of the living. Already in the underworld, Orpheus is received by a chorus of furies, whom he appeases with his lyre and manages to allow him the entrance to the Elysian Fields to search for Eurydice.
Once he finds her, they begin their journey back, but she believes that he no longer loves her because he does not turn to see her or respond to her pleas. Orpheus cannot bear Eurydice's sadness and breaks the promise he made to Amor; At that moment he loses it again. Bowed by pain, he decides to take his own life to return with her to Hades but, once again, Love takes pity on the spouses and, to reward the constancy of their love, lets them return to life, where they are received victoriously.
